Every now and then a trend comes along that requires a certain amount of boldness to take from the catwalk to the street. Saint Laurent, Dolce & Gabbana and Nina Ricci are among major fashion houses to feature cycling shorts in their collections. It girls and models alike have jumped on board with this trend, but is it a wearable option for real women in real life? Or should this trend be left to Kim K and the Hadid sisters?
I believe cycling shorts can be totally wearable in day to day life. Here I make my case with:
4 grownup ways to wear the cycling shorts trend
1. With a blazer
One of the coolest ways to incorporate a sporty item, like cycling shorts, into your wardrobe is by mixing it with tailoring. I opted for my favourite H&M sale Blazer. A black top underneath creates a solid base and depending on wear you work, this can even be an office ready outfit.
2. With knits
Nothing says comfort like wooly knits. Wear your cycling shorts with your favourite cosy jumper and a pair of DMs and you have a perfect outfit for Sunday brunch. If bare legs aren’t an option tights under cycling shorts is a thing! Go for sheer black tights with patterns if you are feeling brave.
3. With a cropped T-shirt
Cropped doesn’t have to mean extra skin on show. High waisted shorts and a cropped t-shirt worn with dad’s trainers, make for a causal and on trend look.
4. With an oversized shirt
This outfit is by far my favourite. Match an oversized vintage shirt with over the knee sock boots for an elegant and unexpected outfit for date night or drinks with the girls.
What do you think? Did I make my case? Will you be wearing cycling shorts? Let me know in the comments.
